Competition Rules & Regulations for the Cooleemee Civitan Fiddler’s Convention

1. Only Bluegrass and Old-Time music will be permitted in the competition.

2. Registered contestants will pay at the gate and be refunded after their stage performance.

3. No contestant, single entry or band member can compete more that one time and can only use one instrument.

4. No contestant/band will be registered after registration has ended for your category; all registration starts at 12:00 noon with individual registration ending at 4:30 PM and bands registration ends at 6:00 PM.

5. All single entries, Individual Category, will perform only one tune and can only be backed up by one accompanist.

6. Single entries, Individual Category, will be permitted only for those contestants not associated with or having entered as part of a band, NO EXCEPTIONS. Violators of this will be disqualified.

7. No electrical instruments will be permitted in the competition except for electric bass. Electric bass will not be judged and will not go against the rest of the band in competition.

8. A band must consist of no less than three and no more than seven performing members.

9. Each band will be allowed two (2) tunes in which the group will be judged in all categories as they perform.

10. Bands must register by band name. When registering, you must fill out the whole form including an address of bandleader & phone number for record keeping.

11. Once a contestant or band is registered, they are assigned a number that indicates the order they will be called to the stage. It is the responsibility of the contestant or band for being stage ready and adjacent to the stage area so that they can be called to perform. If you miss your time when you were called, you missed out on your performance.

12. Any individual or band that has been given a recording contract by a professional recording studio (i.e.) Rounder Records or Sugar Hill etc. will not be eligible to compete for the cash prizes or ribbons. This competition is held for amateur individuals and bands only.

14. The judge’s decisions are final.

15. The Cooleemee Civitan Club, Civitan International and the Town of Mocksville are not responsible for personal injuries as well as lost or stolen items!

16. Note this is a change from last year’s rules: If you were awarded 1st place in any category you are welcome to come back and defined your championship. It is felt that a true competitor wants to compete against the best. It also, will improve each individual’s skills to compete in this environment and improve the overall quality for the event.

17. No alcoholic beverages, drugs or profanity will be tolerated at this event.
